Dear Rose City Customer, Here in the Pacific Northwest, summer is finally here. As you plan summer vacations you'll probably be online a lot researching places, making reservations, checking flight info etc. Here at Rose City Software, we have the perfect tools to enhance your online experience.
Last November we announced the long-awaited release of DU Meter 4.0, and we now have an update for you, v4.01. Always one of our most popular applications, sales of DU Meter since the new version was released have been brisk.
Yet many people seem to feel this handy little utility is unnecessary. "I have unlimited bandwidth allowance," they say. "Why should I care how much I use?" NOT! Read the section on DU Meter down below about why this is no longer true and how you can try DU Meter for free. We also have a handy freeware tool for you to help you organize all the information as you do your research. For best viewing of this newsletter set your email client to view images. If you don't see any below, get more info on how to do this with MS Outlook and Outlook Express. With each edition we will try to bring you a useful software you don't have to pay for... just as we did in previous months. Some are direct from Rose City and some are great toys and tools we have discovered elsewhere that we think you will like! This month, we have a handy freeware tool called TextBEAST which lets you copy, store, organize, and paste text with ease. It features a clean, uncluttered interface and powerful organizational capabilities. TextBEAST is a clipboard enhancement tool. Most computer users know how to copy and paste but few understand Windows Clipboard and how it works. Basically it just holds the text you copy in memory long enough for you to paste it somewhere else. But once you copy something else, it is lost forever to your computer's memory. This is about like using your internet connection to connect to one website, and then for the next website you have to reconnect to the internet, and you have no tabs or ability to go back to the last webpage. Few of us would accept that kind of lame performance, yet an astonishing majority of computer users suffer along with the ultra basic Windows ClipBoard. Whether you choose the free alternative TextBEAST, or the powerful ClipCache Pro, this is one tool you will be very glad you added to your arsenal. And for lots of other cool free tools please check our website. But first, read on for some other great software specials and tips... |

DU Meter is a powerful and user-friendly tool that will enable you to use and guard your Internet connection more efficiently. It lets you see how much of your full bandwidth potential is actually utilized at any given point in time, either by displaying a real-time graph, numerical display, or both. Features include new reporting and alert capabilities, a new mini-mode as well as an auto-hide feature, and a handy stopwatch which accurately times your downloads and reports the average transfer rates, plus full compatibility with Windows 2000/XP/Vista. The perfect companion utility to optimize your Internet connection. DU Meter also reports all network traffic in or out of your machine so it can provide an extra measure of security against worms or viruses performing unauthorized activity with your internet connection. Don't confuse "unlimited access" with "unlimited bandwidth allowance". They are two entirely different things. Unlimited access simply means you can stay online 24/7 around the clock for a basic monthly charge. Bandwidth allotment is entirely different and even if you think you have unlimited bandwidth, that may no longer be true or it is probably coming. For example, Comcast, the nation's largest cable internet provide is rumored to be planning a 250G per month download cap on all accounts Time Warner Cable Internet is currently experimenting with the imposition of monthly allowances for the amount of data their customers upload and download.... and fees per gigabyte if they go over. It's coming folks. Just like airlines are starting to charge for your bags, Internet providers will likely soon ALL be charging for bandwidth usage, so it's a good to start paying attention to what you use before it starts costing you. Released several years ago, DU Meter has been updated a number of times and we have just released v4.1 a free upgrade to the all-new DU Meter 4.0. If you still have v 3.x, visit the DU Meter website to qualify yourself for the upgrade. Special Offer for Rose City Customers only:
